Efek Matinya Koneksi Internet
--> yet another fool question

Is Linux Difficult?
Today someone asked me whether it's difficult using Linux for daily routines. First time I heard that question, i found it's a little bit weird. Why? Because he said "daily routines". I assumed that if somebody using the term daily routines, I believe that he/she has already familiar with what he/she doing. But I kept try to answer that question.
Difficult using Linux or anything else for daily routines depends on what kind of job someone's do, and what kind of software he/she use (we're talking in terminology of computer usage). From my experience, firstly I knew about Linux, yes I found it very difficult and un-pleased. I've tried many kind of distro starts from Debian, Mandrake (now become Mandriva), Fedora, Knoppix, and now Ubuntu. For basic usage such as mail application, office suit, web browser, IM service, some entertainment, nowadays it's really easy to get them from Linux distribution. Whether you like GNOME or KDE, it's your own choice.....that's what I called freedom :)
For reference, although my knowledge is limited, I suggest for new user in Linux try to use Ubuntu distribution. Why? I find that ubuntu smoothly detected all my hardware (PC and laptop) -- this is the most important thing to use Linux, because if the distro doesn't support your hardware, and you're not kind of geeks, it's very exhausting finding the correct hardware driver for Linux. And besides that, "apt" technology which is the foundation technology of Debian, is really helpfull and powerfull.
So, back to the question, is using Linux difficult for daily routines? I would say, "Try to define what you do, what you need, and if Linux is the answer just get used to it perhaps you will find that it's not difficult using Linux".

Tidak Jelas
I want to write it in Bahasa Indonesia :)

Indonesia Becomes Small in Media
Every single time, people say that Indonesia is a very big country (in term of size and citizens). But maybe we have to change that myth a little bit (in term of media). WHY? Right now i'm very bored watching TVs that seem like cannot find another news that worth watching. Each stations, with lots of different kinds of programs, shows the same issue (of course in some different kind of presentation depends of the program itself) at a momment.
Right now, the very big issue in Indonesia is about the death of one of actresses named Alda Risma. This issue really comes up after some times people talked about AA Gym whom decided to go with his decision in polygamy plus a case of porn video that spreaded nationally which involved one of our Representatives. And so on.....and so on......and so on....
Man, those medias really make this country really small.........

Sleeping While Driving
Seems like my bad habit cannot be stopped, eventhough i know that its very dangerous for my (and other) safety.
This morning, on the way home from someone's house, once again i was sleeping while i was driving my motorbike. Almost 3 times my bike wants to hit other's car/motorbike.
Thanx God, i'm still ok right now.......drinking some water at campus really makes me better (but still feel very sleepy)........huahahaha........
Children, please don't try this at home!

Linux in Physics
Yesterday I was called by one of PPSI Hotline staff to configure someone's linux-based laptop for Hotspot UI service. The first impression was "Wow, finally there is someone that come to activate his/her hotspot account using linux OS huahaha....."
Although it was not a success story because seems like that Mandriva that she use (i forgot to tell you that that someone was a lady, but came along with her boyfriend of course hehehe) cannot detected wireless hardware in her laptop, when I saw it, I really amazed......a lady......OMG.
So i asked her, why in the mother of earth she uses GNU/Linux instead of MS Windows just like other ladies. And she just answered, "Almost all students and staff in Department of Physics, Natural Science UI using Linux.......although most of the male students using Debian." "Wow....huahahaha.....wow.....fufufufu.....", that's really how i responded to that answer.
That answer really shows me that my world is really small. I only know about Fasilkom UI, proud to be Fasilkomers, try very hard to introduce open source software in that faculty, but there is other part of UI that already use GNU/Linux for their daily usage.
Jefri, let's send those research topics to them......I already tired waiting for Fasilkom huahaha :)
JP, Charles, Adin, let's take Physics's community to become our Open Community.....
huahahahahaha :) ---> let's Fasilkom really enjoy with .NET technology fufufufu.... (please note that I'm not anti-MS technology, because I also still use and need some of them)

e tuk tuk project
http://www.etuktuk.net
I think that's a very good and bright idea to have mobile access project using a simple community transportation. In Indonesia, as far as i know there is also similar project like this called "Mobil Pintar". But through "e tuk tuk" project we can see that if you want, you can do something to the community without hard cash money. I think "tuk tuk" not a very expensive and special built in vehicle in this case.
Should we in Indonesia have "e bajaj project"?

What's The Difference
This afternoon there is a great seminar about IT Governance by Mas Muki and Mr. Budi Yuwono. The topic is very interesting, especially for me that really obsessed with Information System, and as usual Mas Muki brought the materials in his ways that always makes me fun and never slept in class hehehe.....
But that's not the one that i want to write right now. There's a question, a big question actually, that asked by Mr Muki to the audiences. "What is the difference between CS graduate, especially from Fasilkom UI, than the one from other majors or other universities". This is really a big question because I realized even when i was still a student, i always asked what is the best from Fasilkom UI that I cannot get from others. Because most of the society in Indonesia, if they are asked or talking about IT, the would point out Bina Nusantara or ITB. Maybe i can be proud when i know that Fasilkom UI, through Pusilkom, very well known in government teritory, but how about any other aspects, just like private companies?
This question i believe must be answered by every single elements in Fasilkom UI, including lecturer and students. What will make Fasilkom UI difference from others? Why should they (refer to parents) should be proud or point out Fasilkom UI when they want to give their children the best education in IT?

Journey for The Future
Right now, i'm really clueless about my future. Future as in financial, work, even personal life relationship. Lots of things that i want to do right now, and in the future. But still maybe i'm just a kind of person that still can't see the difference between reality and idealism. I'm so naive.
Maybe it's fate for us as human that we'll never feel enough for what we get or have. We always see that we need more....more....and more.
Oh God, please give me Your lights for me......I really need Your guidance right now......help me....

National Rumours
For these few days, Indonesian people prefer talking about some issues that somehow I think can be categorized as personal issue, but unfortunately it become national wide issue. They are:
1. AA Gym's decision to go with polygamy
2. Porn video done by one of our highest senate
Somehow every single days I turn on TV, news even infotainment always talk about these issues. Meet people at campus, client's office they also talk about these. How about the shortage of "minyak tanah", has it been forgotten?
Please, stop it! There are lots of thinks that we should think and talk about, there are still lots of problems in education, health, even the "national" disaster like "Lumpur Lapindo" hasn't been got its best solution. So sad..........

Yahoo!Messenger: DOWN!!!
Are you big fans of Instant Messenger called Yahoo!Messenger? If you do, you must be dissapointed for 2 hours regarding this news:
Almost 6 years i used this IM, only today i got this terrific quote.....hehehe....
Hopefully today's maintenance really makes Y!M become more legitimate IM :)
The Messenger network will be temporarily down today from 5:30 PST to 7:30 PST.
Our service continues to grow globally, so we are conducting a scheduled maintenance to increase capacity for all our users around the world. We apologize for this inconvenience and have taken strides to limit the maintenance period to a few hours. The service will be down on Friday, December 8, 2006 from 5:30 PST to 7:30 PST.
Hopefully today's maintenance really makes Y!M become more legitimate IM :)
Master Degree
Finally my decision is to follow my last passion about holding master degree, especially in management information system. So for now i'll stick at campus and try to gain that target. The closest target for me is try to get high score in TOEFL/IELTS :)
Wish me luck :)

Fasilkom UI vs Others
Lots of people would ask, "What is the difference between Fasikom UI and other IT institute that nowadays being like dirt that each city minimum has 2-3 institute?" or maybe question that always asked by parents about their children's future, "Why should we parents, entered our children to Fasilkom UI?"
Every single person in fasilkom ui (whether students or ex-students) must have their own perspective regarding these questions.
For me:
1. I learn how to be effective and effisient
2. I learn to be more discipline
3. I learn to be the best with all I have, although it's below average

Printing in Ubuntu
Until today, everytime i want to print files, i always switch into MS Windows from my beloved Ubuntu. I think that my printer (HP deskjet 3740) doesn't have linux-based driver because it's an old type of HP printer.
But this morning i really curious whether i can print files in Ubuntu, so i turn on my printer and try to search help how to add new printer in Ubuntu-desktop. And guess what......it automatically detected my printer very well. Doesn't need to search linux driver for it, just follow the installation wizard.....and boom it works.....
I love ubuntu :)

Malu.....
Ngga sekali-kali lagi deh....
Ngga sekali-kali lagi deh....
Tanya kenapa?

Lights in The Afternoon
Today's news from Jakarta is very weird. Why? The government of DKI Jakarta especially department of transportation has decide that every single motorcycle that run in Jakarta's road must turn-on their lights although it's in the afternoon.
Its really weird doesn't it?
Is it really when we turn on the lights then we can avoid or minimize the accidents?
